Job Title: Full-time Researcher (ASEAN Studies Program)
Background
The Habibie Center is expanding its ASEAN Studies Program (ASP). As part of this endeavor, the ASP researchers is required to work as a team to:
- Conduct research on ASEAN and East Asia-related issues;
- Organize public events on ASEAN and East Asia-related issues.
- Write publications on ASEAN and East Asia-related issues.
- Liaise with different stakeholders such as embassies, consultants, media, external partners, etc.
- Complete deliverables as part of ongoing projects as well as to help secure future projects.
To support the current ASP researcherteam, The Habibie Center will hire a full-time researcher, to be based in Jakarta, Indonesia.
Duration: Initial four months contract with potentially extended based on performance (starting September, 2022)
[This is a full-time position (5 days /40 hours per week)
Responsibilities:
- Mapping the ASEAN and East Asia issues that are relevant and current;
- Conducting research and managing information related to the ASEAN and East Asia-related issues
- Drafting policy briefs (in English) on ASEAN and East Asia-related issues
- Organizing public dialogues and international seminars on ASEAN and East Asia-related issues; preparing Terms of References; identifying speakers and target audience; taking responsibility for the proceedings including the administrative issues
- Actively representing The Habibie Center in ASEAN-related forums and events on ASEAN in Jakarta and the region, including preparing short written report;
- Attending seminars, workshops, and other events on behalf of The Habibie Center and reporting back on any topical issues;
- Assisting the Habibie Center with other activities/events including project proposal development as the opportunity arises.
Requirements
- Minimum master’s degree or relevant experience in international relations, international politics, regional studies, or other related disciplines with some previous experiences in related fields;
- Demonstrated strong knowledge of regional integration issues, especially in the ASEAN region, and up-to-date with the general news and events regarding the ASEAN Community and ASEAN countries;
- Strong knowledge of politics, democracy, and/or socio-cultural issues in ASEAN is an advantage;
- Previous working experience in a similar role, and specifically experienced in writing policy briefs, academic articles, and op-ed (in English and Bahasa Indonesia) that deals with qualitative and quantitative data, and organizing events;
- Proficient in both spoken and written English;
- Willing to organize events such as public dialogue and international seminars and to handle administrative issues.
- Solid organizational skills, time management, and a proven ability to prioritize projects with attention to detail;
- Experience working with a variety of stakeholders, including local and international research organizations, governments, and NGOs;
- Experience in handling projects, from developing concept notes, implementation, and reporting phases.
- Integrity, professional discretion, and ability to interact effectively with diverse partners.
